What they make

  • Joe and Helen Petras opened it in 2001 to bring the food and beer of their native Czechoslovakia to Utah; Joe chose to brew lagers, which take longer to make than ales.[1]
  • Since 2018 it has been owned by the group behind Porcupine Pub and Grille, The Dodo and the Rio Grande Cafe, who said they would keep the restaurant and the Czech beers.[1]

Visiting

  • A full restaurant: the menu the Tribune singled out includes bratwurst, pierogies and goulash.[1]

Bottles to go

Their own sources don't say whether they sell bottles or cans to go. Ask before you go.

Utah lets a brewery, winery or distillery sell its own packaged products on site through a “Type 5” package agency[7]; anything else comes from a state liquor store.

What locals say

  • City Weekly readers placed its Czech Pilsner second for best lager in 2025, and the brewery third for best brewery food and second for best German restaurant.[2][3]
  • A City Cast Salt Lake reader said it makes the best beer in Utah and praised the food.[4]
